Belonging is one of those things you don’t always notice until life feels uncertain.
In London, belonging can come and go. It can live in routines, friendships, streets you know by heart, or in places where you still feel like a guest. For some people it feels steady; for others it’s something they’re still figuring out, or negotiating day by day.
This issue brings together letters from Londoners writing across different experiences, sharing what belonging feels like — or doesn’t — in their own lives. These letters aren’t trying to define the city. They’re simply ways of speaking to one another, honestly, from where we are.
Together, they form a picture of a city where belonging isn’t fixed, but something shaped through small, human exchanges.
We’re inviting Londoners to write letters around the theme of Belonging.
You might write about:
- Feeling at home — or out of place — in the city
- Moments when belonging surprised you
- Communities you’ve found, lost, or built
- What helps you feel settled, or what keeps you moving
- Who you feel connected to here
Letters can be addressed to another person, a place, a past or future self, or left open.
You don’t need to be a writer. We’re interested in real experiences, written in your own voice.
All submissions should be sent to lettersoflondonmag@gmail.com
The submission window for BELONGING is 7th January through 7th March.
We look forward to reading your submissions.
